The Easy Method For Picture Hanging

The Easy Method for Picture Hanging In my last home, I had a FABULOUS idea: Have a photo collage wall! You know, all the kids, random shots, cute frames, perfectly placed. HAH! I tried it freehand and the results were, let’s say, NOT stellar! Some frames closer to some than others, a few frames at a tilt unless I stuck a wad of sticky stuff on the back, and almost NONE exactly level at the top–well I’ve matured in my MAD PICTURE HANGING SKILLZ!! If you love framed photos on the wall and have been hoping for an easier way to get this crazy task accomplished, today is your lucky day! STEP ONE- Decide on the photos, choose your frames, and look through a few catalogs or magazines for ideas. It’s always easier when you have an idea in mind before you pound a nail. Photos should compliment the home decor, not compete with it. SUGGESTIONS:...

Windowsill Herb Gardens for Every Home

Herbs. A veritable wealth of health benefits in a few little tiny leaves! Herbs have anti-inflammatory, as well as anti-bacterial properties, and in addition to their healing potential, they make most recipes pop with flavor. As with all plant foods, the fresher, the better for you! And here’s the good news; anyone can have the freshest herbs every single day right from your windowsill! An amateur gardener may sweat bullets at the thought of taking care of tomato vines, or nurturing the broccolli crop, but even city kids can grow herbs! Here’s how to get started! Step one: Purchase the Following Small clay pots (best choice) with drainage holes and a waterproof saucer. They should be 4-6 inches. For a more ‘urban’ look, Use 33 oz tomato sauce cans with the labels peeled off and a few holes poked in the bottom. Place your row of cans on a long skinny metal tray. Herbs in pressed paper...

How to Speed Clean Your Home

Today I am going to teach you how to speed clean your home or, in other words, “my mother-in-law is on her way over and I only have an hour to get the house in shape!”  We’ve all been there. We sort of let the house go as the week progresses and all of a sudden your husband announces he invited his boss over for a beer or your in-laws are paying you a surprise visit. Whatever the case may be, you’ve got some cleaning to do and a short time to do it! An Uncluttered Home Looks Cleaner than a Cluttered Home Getting the clutter picked up does a lot for making your home appear clean. But, before you take this valuable step to cleanliness, go spritz some cleaner into the bathroom sink and squirt some cleanser in the toilet bowl. Let those cleaners start working while you clear the clutter. Now, grab a...

Making Individual Jars of Sun Tea

Good gracious it’s hot outside! Is this the time of year you can cook an egg on the sidewalk? Probably. Does anyone actually do that? Not really. But, you can harness that crazy heat of the sun to do a little good. Making sun tea is so easy, especially in Arizona. There’s nothing like using a little solar action to make a delicious beverage. Usually, when making sun tea you get out the giant gallon glass jug, plop some tea bags in it, add some water, and set it out in the sun. Well, how about making individual jars of sun tea in different flavors? Don’t feel locked in to the same old plain tea (not that there’s anything wrong with that. Miss Moxie is addicted to it.) Herbal teas are all the rage right now. What better way to enjoy some new flavors than on an individual basis? Just grab a few boxes of herbal tea...

Organizing Your Home Office

At Moxie Girl, one of our services that is becoming more and more popular is that of home organizing. I’m sure you know how frustrating it can be to have piles of stuff here and there. No matter how clean and organized you can be, quite often it’s inevitable that we end up with that unintended pile of papers, files, and who know what else! If you work from home, quite often your home office can become disorganized in a matter of a few days. If you don’t get a handle on the clutter and disorganization, chaos reigns supreme! We recently helped a home photographer get his office organized. He had some special requirements in his work space. Even though you may not be a photographer, when you organize your work space, take a few moments to jot down all the different things you need to accomplish in that space. Then, sketch out a rough draft of...

How Often Should I Vacuum?

“How often should I vacuum?” We get that question quite a lot. Did you know that carpet manufacturers suggest vacuuming every day? Seriously? Who has time to vacuum every day? No one I know, that’s for sure. So, start with running the vacuum over the high traffic areas at least once a week, and then try one of these tips that can help you keep your carpet looking fresh and clean for years to come! Keep It Cleaner First try laying down mats in all entry ways, stair cases, and doorways, just anywhere that needs some collecting to do. Mats and smaller carpets are easier to clean because you can just toss them in the washer when they are dirty. (This is a lot easier then tossing your entire carpet in the washer if you ask me) This brings me to the next tip. New Carpet If you still have green carpet, pink carpet, bright yellow carpet...
